Data sources & methodology

How NutriCalculator distinguishes published nutrition data from calculated estimates and helps users understand the limits of each result.

Common-food data

Food search uses records from USDA FoodData Central. A food can have multiple entries based on preparation, brand or database type, so users select the record that best matches their food.

Serving calculations

Nutrients are proportionally recalculated from the selected record and serving amount. Changing grams or another supported serving updates the displayed totals.

Recipes and dishes

Recipe results are calculated from the chosen ingredient records, quantities and number of servings. They are estimates, not a single authoritative value for every version of a dish.

Restaurant nutrition

Official restaurant nutrition pages and documents are prioritized. Source dates and limitations should be shown when available because menus and formulations change.

Our labeling standard

Published facts and estimates are not the same.

NutriCalculator presents source data as published information and clearly describes recipe, meal, dish and macro outputs as calculations or estimates. This distinction is central to the platform.

Important limitations

Nutrition values vary with brands, varieties, preparation methods, ingredient substitutions, portion measurement and data updates.
